As a former teacher, Susan particularly enjoys the opportunity to continue "teaching" through the Garden Coaching aspect of the business. Many clients are eager to know the correct way to plant or prune, for example, and the Garden Coaching process provides the perfect way to instruct the homeowner on- site, in their own gardens.

    A Garden Coach must have had considerable experience with plants and design, and be knowledgeable of the different requirements that plants need, as well as, be able to work with the homeowner to help them realize their vision (or help them develop one) for their out-door living spaces. Our designer and garden coach, Susan Wheeler, has had over 20 years of design experience, and is a national Garden Design Award Winner, and she knows which plants do well in all different situations. For example, what kind of soil is present, how much sun or shade is available, or is there a windy exposure.

    If the homeowners want to get involved with caring for the gardens themselves, Susan will teach them the right way to do the many different operations needed. For example, how to choose healthy plants at a nursery, or, how to ensure that good drainage has been achieved, or how to plan and then plant, so that some shrubs or perennials are always in bloom.

    With Garden Coaching, we can be on-site once a week, once a month or, once or twice a season. The client determines the speed of the process. At the same time, the Garden Coach may help the owner save money by perhaps pointing out how a tree, that previously had been planted too deeply by someone else, will die, if not corrected, or the Coach may note when to prune certain plants, to ensure optimal health and blooms.
